What a Difference a Year Makes!
One year ago today, we landed here - the Maine Mall in South Portland, Maine. It was when we pulled into this parking lot on December 18, 2013 everything suddenly became very real. We had left everything we were familiar with - our jobs, our salaries, our families, our home, made the trek over 2,000 miles through snow, ice, rain, traffic and tolls, and after weeks of traveling we were finally in Maine. We got out of our respective vehicles, looked at each other and said simultaneously, "We're here, now what?" Paul pulled out his phone, and I had mine in my hand, and we pulled up Hotels.com, found somewhere to land, and the rest is history.
So here, one year later, I am sitting in the living room looking at Christmas decorations, grateful that we get to spend Christmas in our own home rather than a hotel, and reminiscing over all that we've learned and experienced over the last year. Here are some of the highlights:
Paul has learned a new trade (Home Inspecting) while continuing in one of his favorite things (Audio Engineering). I am about halfway done with the first draft of my first book (pushing to finish this draft within the next couple weeks), and serving on a worship team. We have connected with a couple different churches, making a lot of friends in the process. We've hosted friends and family, showing off our beautiful state!
We have learned that the price for our obedience is paid by more than just us, and our family and friends have been impacted by our decision. We are beyond grateful for their support and love and willingness to walk this crazy journey with us.
Our communication with each other has improved as we have encountered new trials and stresses as a couple, and we have grown closer in the process.
We have encountered spiritual warfare in greater dimensions, developed a deeper dependence on the Lord, realized how richly blessed we are to be His kids, and are more passionate than ever about knowing Him and partnering with Him in His Kingdom purposes.
As we prepare to celebrate our second Christmas in this beautiful state, our hearts are full of thankfulness for God's faithful love and provision and expectation for what He is doing here.
We would love to have all of you come visit us and experience the Maine thing! We're now booking reservations for our guest bedroom air mattress and living room couches! :-)
Thank you for your continued prayer and support! Have the merriest of Christmases and the happiest new year! Love to all....
